Children

Wee Believe Preschool

–       3-5 year olds

We Believe Sunday School

–       Grades K-2nd

–       Grades 3rd – 5th

The We Believe curriculum utilizes at First Presbyterian Church of Saline is developed for the Presbyterian Church and it follows the three ways in which Presbyterians know and serve God; with our minds (study), with our hearts (prayer and worship); and with our hands (service).

On Sunday morning preschool children thru the 5th grade gather together for Tent Time at 9:30 a.m. During Tent Time they will sing songs, offer prayers, and present an offering to support a child from Child Fund International.  After Tent Time children are dismissed to their classroom.  Sunday school is scheduled to conclude at 10:30 a.m

Enrichment Hour

–       ages 5 through grade 3

–       What a good thing to have children in worship! But little ones get the wiggles.  Enrichment Hour gets the wiggles out with stories and crafts from the time the sermon begins until the end of the 11:00 worship service.

–       Enrichment Hour does not meet on Communion Sunday so that children can partake of the Lord’s Supper.  Nor does it meet during the 8:30 service which is more “kid-friendly”.

–       Enrichment Hour lessons are planned to use scripture, stories and crafts or activities to help these younger children hear God’s word for them each Sunday.  The sessions are led by parents or other volunteers on a rotating basis.

Youth

PRISM – People Rejoicing in the Savior’s Message

This weekly Christian Education opportunity is offered for our youth who are in 6th -8th grades.  PRISM is coordinated by Carey Pellerin and meets at Summit House during the Sunday School time (9:30-10:30).  PRISM focuses on transitioning from an elementary to secondary Christian educational experience by helping the students understand, develop and make real-life connections with their faith and scripture. Becoming aware of what gifts God has given each of them and how to share their talents and gifts with our church and community is another area of emphasis.   We use the Presbyterian based We Believe curriculum for Younger Youth.

Teen Forum

This weekly Christian Education opportunity is offered for our youth who are in 9th -12th grades. Teen Forum is led by Becky and Marc McVey and Sue and Rod Conley.  The group meets upstairs in the Genesis House during the Sunday School time (9:30-10:30). The focus of Teen Forum is to provide a safe, respectful and spiritual environment in which teenagers can freely discus their faith journey and the challenges and questions they face every day.  The adult leaders start with the Presbyterian curriculum, Faith Questions, to help the youth look at scripture and current events in relevant and responsive ways.

A Christian Perspective on the Hydraulic Fracturing Debate

The secular debate about “fracking” typically hinges on political and economic arguments, including the nature of property rights. However, the Environmental Stewardship Ministry believes that, as disciples of Christ, we must look at these issues through the lenses of faith, stewardship, and radical discipleship. We believe that, as Christians, we have a moral and biblical imperative to protect God’s creation. After all, the beauty of our natural environment is perhaps the most tangible reminder of God’s unlimited love and presence in our lives.
