Stephen Ministry

Christ Has No Body

I’ve shared this quote before, but in trying times like these, the words of Teresa of Avila, who lived during the time of Martin Luther, still resonate:

  • Christ has no body but yours,
  • No hands, no feet on earth but yours.
  • Yours are the eyes with which he looks
  • Compassion on this world,
  • Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
  • Yours are the hands with which he blesses all the world.
  • Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
  • Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
  • Christ has no body but yours,
  • No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
  • Yours are the eyes with which he looks
  • Compassion on this world.
  • Christ has no body now on earth but yours.

As you go through your day, let yourself be the eyes and ears of Jesus. When you notice a need, ask about it and then listen some more. Might this be a need for Stephen Ministry? When Jesus saw a need, he recognized it and looked for a way to fill that need. Let Jesus work through you so that you are quick to recognize needs and to find ways to fill those needs, so that you can reach out, loving others in Jesus’ name.

Loving others in Jesus’ name is a challenge and an opportunity for all who are God’s children. Likewise, the joy of helping others is the privilege of all Christians, for the Holy Spirit has given gifts to each Christian to use in service to others and to build up the church, the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:7-11).

Stephen Ministry is a ministry that belongs to every member of First Presbyterian Church. Please keep this ministry and the Stephen Ministers and those receiving care now in your prayers.

If you need a Stephen Minister, please contact Judy Shipman. If you have questions about Stephen Ministry, please talk to John Guess, Peg Woehrle, Karen Collins, Mike Liemohn, or any of our Stephen Ministers, Bob or Barb Balog, Ann Valentine, Dawn Johnson, Lorna Smilde, Bob Dobson or Judy Maule.

A GREAT WAY YOU CAN HELP A HURTING FRIEND
Stephen Ministers are lay members of First Presbyterian Church of Saline, trained to provide support and encouragement to other members of the congregation. They provide care to people in many different circumstances. Our Stephen Ministers are ready to provide confidential, one-to-one, Christian care. They will listen, encourage and pray with and for you. Stephen Ministers have been specially trained to meet your emotional and spiritual needs. Male Stephen Ministers are always matched with men and female Stephen Ministers are matched with women. If you or someone you know is hurting, find out more about Stephen Ministry by talking with one of our Stephen Leaders. Call the church office at 734-429-4140 for contact information.
