Director of Youth Ministry: First Presbyterian Church of Saline, MI

Job Description

Overall responsibilities: Create, oversee, and participate in programs, for approximately twenty-five K-12th  graders, which guide the young people of First Presbyterian Church, Saline on their journeys toward maturity in Christ. Maintain membership in the Christian Education Committee. This position is overseen by the pastor and the Session.

Preferred Skills: Has the ability and desire to love and serve the Lord through youth ministry; Relates well to young people; An organized leader who communicates and delegates well; Familiarity and comfort with current technologies and social media.

Time Commitment: 25 hours/week                                                           Salary: $20,000 – $30,000/year


  • Build & Maintain Relationships
    • Communicate clearly and consistently about the program’s priorities and events with youth, parents, church staff, Pastor, and volunteers
    • Greet and guide first-time visitors then follow up with them afterward
    • Contact inactive youth/parents personally
    • Note youth successes, challenges, and prayer requests and coordinate with Pastor and/or deacons as needed
    • Attend school-related and other youth events of members
    • Work cooperatively toward creative solutions to conflicts
  • Event Planning and Management
    • Work with Sunday School teachers to implement Sunday morning curriculum and programs
    • Coordinate with the youth to create an annual calendar of events
    • Source new ideas for events
    • Create a “how-to” binder for each event
    • Plan to attend all events
    • Promote all events and fundraisers
    • Make logistical/travel arrangements and secure payments
    • Photograph/video events for marketing efforts
  • Volunteer Coordination
    • Direct and collaborate with current volunteers and recruit as needed
    • Conduct child safety policy training/background checks of all prospective adult volunteers
    • Conduct regular feedback/status meetings with volunteers
  • Administration
    • Create/submit an annual budget and an annual report
    • Attend and participate in monthly Christian Education Committee and Session meetings
    • Make proposals for facility improvements
    • Delegate/create bulletin board displays
    • Create/edit documents:
      • Youth and leader directories
      • Event registration forms/permission slips
      • Newsletter announcements
      • Attendance rolls/databases
