Worship Sundays at 10am
"Worship is at the very heart of the Church's life. Joined in worship to the One who is the source of its life, the church is equipped to serve God in the world." The Book of Common Worship, p. xiii-xiv
Worship at First Presbyterian Church is a relaxed experience on the more traditional side. Our time in worship forms us into a community, orients us towards God, and prepares us to serve others with loving and grateful hearts like Jesus did! We seek to make personal connections between our faith and how we live our daily lives.
In worship, we strive to honor our Presbyterian heritage while integrating new traditions. Seldom are two Sundays exactly the same! We sing familiar hymns while learning new songs that express our faith in modern times. We use spoken words together throughout the service and also use art, music, and other activities to engage the whole self. We continue to use affirmations of faith because it’s important in this time and age for us to remember what we believe and how we live it, and for visitors to be able to understand our values!
Our main worship service will always be hybrid, available both in the sanctuary as well as online through our website. Streaming worship is a way to keep all of us connected, no matter where we may be. Often our members connect to worship while away on a business trip or even on vacation. Worship grounds them in a way nothing else can!
Visitors may be more comfortable joining in worship online with relative anonymity first, to get the feel of our community before entering the building. Those worshipping at home can always participate in the Lord’s Supper, or Holy Communion, by gathering your own elements at home and taking them at the same time we do.
Our children’s “prayground” will be a welcoming space right in the sanctuary, filled with quiet activities related to the lessons while parents participate in Worship right next to them.
